New Sunrise Thai Restaurant brings flavor, custom choices to Citrus Heights – Citrus Heights Sentinel

Since opening for business on Nov. 27 last year, a new family owned and operated restaurant continues to be serving up Thai food and earning satisfied reviews from diners in a small location tucked away behind Walgreens in the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Antelope Road.

The new Sunrise Thai Restaurant at 7777 Sunrise Blvd. offers lots of selections among the 40-plus options on the menu, with curries, stir-fried choices, BBQ, and salads. Spice levels could be customized and the restaurant also provides to customize dishes for all those wanting a vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free option.

The restaurant is run by the Xiong family, who immigrated from Thailand in 2005.

“It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to have a business of my own,” said Xor Xiong, who serves as the primary chef. Her husband serves in the kitchen area as a prep cook, and her son, Leng, helps with serving tables and handling the restaurant.

While most entrees run about $9, menu items range from $4.95 for a cucumber salad as much as $15.95 for a rib eye steak. Happy Hour can also be offered daily from 4-6 p.m., with beers and appetizers offered at a discount.

Reviewers on Yelp have because of the restaurant an average of 4.5-out-of-5 stars so far, with a total of 59 reviews. Pad Thai is probably the popular dishes at the restaurant, along with avocado green curry — a generously sized creamy curry dish that’s topped with two large avocado halves.

The menu includes several Thai beverage and dessert options, in addition to a variety of beers and wines.

The 1200-square-foot location was previously home to a Chinese restaurant and it is located in the same plaza as Molina Medical Clinic and the Corner Pocket Sports Bar. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and noon to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
