Leeds manufacturers get together to attract generation x of engineers Magazine

Manufacturers in Leeds are joining forces to stage the first Leeds Manufacturing Festival to lift the profile on the sector and attract generation x of teenagers into your industry.

More than 20 from the city’s leading manufacturing employers have to this point pledged their support for your festival, which can involve a programme of events including factory visits for schools, talks and tours set to happen in October this season.

Mike Thornton, head of manufacturing at RSM, said: “The manufacturing sector is facing a perfect storm where crucial skills might be lost in case the knowledge will not be used the younger generation.

The festival, that could take place later this year, will be organised by organised via the Leeds Manufacturing Alliance, sustained by the Leeds Chamber of Commerce, while using objective building stronger relationships between manufacturing employers and local schools.

Victoria Hopkins, md of Hopkins Catering Equipment Ltd and chair of Leeds Manufacturing Alliance, said: “The objective the festival is to make connections between manufacturers and native schools, so you can open the eyes of young people, teachers, careers advisers and parents towards massive amount career opportunities which one can find in manufacturing.”
